In Nederland zijn verschillende instrumenten beschikbaar om te screenen op ondervoeding. De MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) is een gevalideerd screeningsinstrument ontwikkeld door BAPEN, een Britse organisatie die zich inzet voor de herkenning van ondervoeding. Een alternatief is de SNAQ (Short Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire).

De MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) is een gevalideerd screeningsinstrument voor vroegtijdige herkenning van ondervoeding. De MUST is in Engeland ontwikkeld door de Malnutrition Advisory Group (MAG) onder verantwoordelijkheid van de British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN). Voor screening in het ziekenhuis kan zowel de MUST als de SNAQ worden gebruikt. 

Instructies voor gebruik: 
De verpleegkundige screent elke patiënt bij opname in het ziekenhuis op ondervoeding. Evidencio berekent de MUST automatisch na invoeren van alle relevante variabelen. 

Evidence-based medicine:
Door bij opname te screenen op ondervoeding worden meer ondervoede patiënten herkend: in de kliniek is dit gestegen van 50% naar 80% en wordt de behandeling eerder ingezet.1
