Aanwijzingen voor toepassing van de NPI:
De Nottingham prognostische index (NPI) werd reeds in 1982 ontwikkeld.1 Sindsdien is de gemiddeld overleving van patiënten met primair mammacarcinoom aanzienlijk verbeterd. Deze modelupdate van Blamey et al. (2007) stratificeert patiënten in zes verschillende risicocategorieën op basis van data van 2238 patiënten uit de periode 1990-1999. Deze indeling in risicocategorieën kan ondersteunen bij het selecteren van laag- en hoog-risco patiënten, op basis waarvan arts en patiënt gezamenlijk kunnen komen tot een passend behandelplan (shared-decision making).
Model prestaties:
In een externe validatiestudie van Blamey et al.2 bleek de NPI in staat tot het adequaat stratificeren van patiënten met primair mammacarcinoom in zes verschillende risicocategorieën (Figuur 1).
